The whole family enjoyed fishing our club tourney yesterday. Hit the water right at 7 a.m. and had a first cast, first fish hookup by 7:20!
All fish caught around structure with mm on a jig head. The closer you got, the better the bite. Most in the falling tide, but plucked a few on incoming.
When current picked up and you could feel the mm suspending, we’d flip the bail, play out some line and usually would get a strike shortly after you flipped the bail back. I’ve done that before but it seemed to be the ticket yesterday and taught the kids a little trick:smiley:.
Wound up with 15-20 reds and 4 trout. Reds were mainly around 18-20", but did manage a couple worth the weigh in. Biggest trout 16 1/4" by the boy, which won the trout portion of the tourney for him! Members weighed in a bunch of reds, the winner being a 4.54# FATTY!
Pretty day, early anyway. Water lingering right around 60 and clear.
Kids filled a peli belly or two at the landing:smiley:
22" red.
21"+ for the boy to weigh in

Double hookup. That trout pestered my wife (who is steadily becoming an angler) for the longest. “I know I’m feeling something!”
Kids doubled up on some rats:smiley:
