2/21 report

I haven’t given a report in awhile do figured I would share one. Haven’t been on the lake since early jan, but with marks tx coming up in a few weeks figured it was time to start looking. Didn’t have to go far. Fished below the elbow area. Never pulled the TM up till it was time to leave.

Marked a ton of bait/fish holding at 15-30’ over top of 50-80’ of water. Pulled boards/freelines over top of them. Finished with 16 fish, 2 shorts, rest were solid keepers from 6-11#. Had 4 over 9#. The biggest 4 came on “fisherman’s dollar bill shad” (9-10")…

Rest of fish came on small shad and herring. Tried some shallow water and that’s where the shorts came from. Went back out to deeper water and found the bigger fish.

Still alot of bird chasers doing their thing…lol…watching bait guys catch fish in front of them.

I feel it’s gonna be a great march/april. Should be alot of good teens+ caught. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see a 30+ and a teen hold first place in marks tx.

Thanks for the report Chip. I had the same experience last week when going shallow.

Though we fished a different area on Saturday during the tournament, we had a very similar experience fishing mostly shiners. We threw 2 9+ pounders on the scale to finish 4th. However, we got edged off the podium by a couple of slightly nicer fish and Catchall winning it with a good keeper and a fish of nearly 18 pounds!

Colby and I fished Presidents Day in the cold rain and sleet and found good fish in the shallows in 42 degree water. The temp was up to 48-50 on Saturday, and the fish seemed to move back out over the depths but only running 15-30 feet deep like Chip said. Fishing is a constant game of adjustments.

I too had success below the elbow. Caught my biggest at 12 pounds in the channel and several shorts back in the creeks. I kept hoping the sun was going to peak through the clouds late morning and cause a feeding frenzy but never happened.

Apparently the crappie fisherman forgot to look at the fishing report because they were out in full force. I weaved in and out of boats for a good portion of the early morning but we all did our part to give each other room.

It was a fun day to say the least. I think Murray is growing on me a little bit.

I’ll be back out there either Friday or Saturday…
