Guest starring SkinneeJ, Greg1, and Eric. For those who fished Sunday instead of Monday, let me just say, “I am sorry to hear that”. Monday was absolutely beautiful down south, nice glassy seas and you could have run anywhere you wanted. We went out to the big ledge and pretty much stayed there all day. We saw the water temp hit 70-71 at one point, but didn’t see a flyer all day long. We saw 3 sun fish and 1000’s of small bonitas (those wahoo should be getting pretty fat right now). Overall, we had a pretty good day and caught some interesting critters including some of the biggest b-liners that I have ever seen. If only the SAFMC would put down their remote controls and get up off of their couch and do some fishing they might see that vermillions and red porgies are some of the most numerous fish in the ocean. We also caught 5 kitty mitchells which is the most I have ever seen in one day and caught huge red porgies all day long. I actually caught a double kitty mitchell slam on a 2 hook rig.
Summary
7 Red Snappers (released a few more, but biggest red was ~20#)
6 scamps (biggest from greg was ~18#)
1 nice gag (P-diddy-1)
1 Queen trigger
5 kitty mitchells (yes, we released all but 1)
several nice sized triggers
12 red porgies (and released probably 50-60 more would be keepers)
40 Vermillion (half were probably over 20-22 inches long)
a dozen or so BSB
1 nurse shark
Sorry guys. As I mentioned before, there were no pictures of the smiles. I can assure you that it did happen though. Greg might have snapped a few fish pictures though.
