2/5/13 Nice day

Fished from 7-12 this morning.
Real nice and calm in the AM and windy by midday.

Fish were biting pretty good!

Caught 8 reds, including 2 pigs that I broke off on some bad line  Power Pro Slick (Hate it!) Biggest at 31" and 11 lbs, a real hoss. Caught on Gulp Sapphire Shine 5" jerk bait.

Also had 11 trout to 18.5", caught on Trout Tricks - - what else?

Air temp: 40-72F
Water Temp: 53F

Nice day, I have found the PP slick to be not real abrasion resistant

Congrats on a good day out! I have those trout tricks, haven’t had a chance to use them really. Any suggestions on best way to work them through the water?

Excellent report. Beautiful fish.

I’m heading out with some old timers tomorrow. It should be nice.

nice.

and thanks for torturing the desk jockeys on a weekday. I’ll remember this.

Wouldn’t ax your spot but will ax how deep were the trout? I haven’t been able to find any around Wadmalaw lately. Thanks

You can’t catch fish on a dry line

As little as 4 ft and as deep as 20 ft. They were staged up on creek bends where there was a current break. The 20 ft ones were in a deep hole. I cast out the trout trick, waited for a count of about 20 sec until it reached bottom, then began the jerk-jerk-drop retrieve. They were on the very bottom.

I forgot to add that I missed a lot of bites due to the wind and trying to manage the bow in my line. I ended up positioning myself to cast nearly straight into or straight down wind. I would feel the bite, but the line bow would cause a slight delay before hook set. I could have done a better job compensating for that - and I did… eventually

PS. Had my reel respooled with original PowerPro green 10# today, thanks to CA Summerville

Great job, Optiker! Great day for early February, especially on the trout.
