We broke in the new to us boat today only had a couple hours to fish but we did ok. We had herring and big shiners for bait. We worked a couple coves around the state park at .5 mph . We lost or missed 5 good bites caught 3 good fish about 24 inches. Had about equal hits on boards, freelines, and down rods. We were marking fish at 15 to 20 feet. Also caught a big perch on a board.
Thanks for the report…I fished yesterday as well, from about 1pm to 4:30pm. Only managed 4 releases and all were 20-20.5" fish. Missed a couple other light bites. Slow fishing and the bites were just not very aggressive. They didn’t even trip the boards when they bit. We used herring only. Fish were caught from 17 foot to 35 foot, but like you said - the fish were marked mostly in that 20 foot range. I tried the shallows too, but didn’t have a single strike. I cruised around the area you are talking about and saw that the water was still very stained. Will be glad when it clears up. The stained water could be seen between Bomb and Spence, so it’s got to be chocolate milk up river. I didn’t go up farther than the area you were in because there was only as short window to fish yesterday.
