Made it out twice last week. Was lucky enough for the first time in forever to get a decent buck early in the season so I have been able to concentrate on this big bass run.
Back to back days last week. Fished incomming one day and out going the second day.
First day we boated a couple big reds and a huge flounder. Bots around us seemed to be on them also. Second day it was windy and rough. WE fought through it and were the only boat in sight. Onl fished one hour. Landed a 36’, 44’ broke two big runs off and landed another nice bonnet.
Live pin fish with the tail cut, and hooked through the dorsal fin and large chunck mullet. My best advice from those days is to use heavy heavy weight, get on the bottom, rougher the water the better, and do not set the hook. Loose drags in the rod holder and slowly tighten it until it sets.
5oz minimum. From my experience if you are not having to use heavy weight to get it down there then you are not in swift enough currents. Also seems like the slower the water moves the more sharks and rays you catch.
