Fished structure in 150 to 200. Water temp was 70.5. Tuna busting everywhere pushing fliers. Neither wahoo fit in the box. One was over 72". Tuna only ate the waybacks. Blue and white Squitches behind birds…

But were they YFT? I hope they were. I’ve never caught a YFT inside of 500’. Maybe I don’t need to go out so far.

it is not uncommon to catch yellowfins inside the ledge.

Tasty just the same. Nice job.

Most yft caught in charleston are in under 500ft. Try shallow next time. On structure. Two years ago I caught 2 yft with in site of the bridges. I know its hard to believe but they like structure and bait. Thats where to ffind them.
tight lines,

Fresh BFT is as good as YFT in my opinion. Made ceviche with wahoo and tuna for the app last night.
Then slow baked wahoo at 250 with a baste of frsh garlic, white wine, and lemon.
Tuna loins were marinated in soy, terryaki, ginger, a lil melted butter with garlic, and wasabi powder. Cooked 15 seconds on each side in a pan with a bit of sesami oil…
Steamed broccoli fresh out of the garden.
It was delish…
Ate at 9:30…
Was asleep soon after…

so a 29 foot “offshore” vessel doesn’t have a box big enough for a 72" fish? Sweet.

We used to catch YFT mixed in with everything else trolling between 130 and 200’ at the banks. That was about 15 years ago though… it doesn’t seem to happen that often anymore.
Good work and report Cracker.

I think it was 60" wide… we had to take all the ice out and bend the fish and the tail still stuck out… I guess it was made for the kinda guy who likes to load up on the “slinger mahi”

I thought you didnt like the sea hunts, and they beat the tar out of you.
nice catch bro…
Sounds like a reasonably successful trip. BTW…I think I may have found the next CrackerCat…I think the fishbox on this may be big enough for your 'hoo…
