I’ve been contemplating getting a 2-person kayak for years. I think I will finally pull the trigger this spring. Here is my expected usage:
Fishing in creeks, lake, potential for Broad and Saluda River.
My children (3/7/10) or wife will accompany me on occasion for fishing and/or recreational activities.
I’m more partial to sit ins rather than sit on tops, but I’ve found a nice Brooklyn sit on top recently.
I’m wanting to stay under $1000, preferably a lot cheaper.
Ocean kayak has a good tandem kayak. Its pretty stable fairly light weight and plenty capable. Its a sit on though. I prefer sit ons. Sit ins are 1 mistake from real trouble.
Personally, I prefer sit on tops because there is more room, and that (I believe) sit insides are made for colder water. There is also more at risk if you flip a sit inside than a sit on top (you could actually sink a sit inside but you have to puncture a sit on top to due so). Just something to think about
I have a two person 13’ emotion sit on top yak. Thinking about selling… is perfectly rigged for fishing.

I know this isn’t swap shop but just wanted to throw this out there. PM if you want pictures.
Another important thing to consider; standing up in a kayak. I’m not sure if you intend to stand, but when I fish from my kayak I’m almost always standing in it. It can help you see fish and make better casts. It is basically impossible to stand from a sit inside kayak, you will almost certainly flip it.
