Trying to decide if I should buy a 2 speed reel for jigging. Anyone have any advise on if I actually need a 2 speed or should I stick with just a little bigger 1 speed? I usually don’t fish any deeper than 165ft.

You do not want a 2 speed reel for jigging. You need a faster retrieve to work the jig properly and you want a higher inch per turn to get the fish off the bottom quicker. It should be a star drag style reel. That allows you to engage the reel much quicker when they hit on the fall and you don’t have to mess with adjusting a lever.
We use Shimano Trinidad 12 and 14. Look at the Shimano Torium for a cheaper option.
Your rod selection is critical for this technique as well. You will likely be using jigs in the 100-160g weights. Match your rod to those weights. Look at Shimano Trevala and Game Type J rods in the MH powers.
