2 stroke 25 HP Merc Stalling out at higher RPMS

I have a 2003 2 Stroke 25hp Merc outboard that is stalling out at higher RPMs. It runs fine at idle speed and wants to chug out after giving it some gas for a while and coming back off the throttle. I pulled the top off the engine and you can see the fuel running through the filter and then just dying out (running to empty) all of the sudden. It cranks fine after stalling. I just replaced the fuel and have been using the stabil ethanol stuff for a while now. The engine is also popping a bit while running. I have been running it on the muffs not on the water.

Is this a fuel restriction or something else going on. Any ideas/advice out there?

Thanks

there is somthing resticting your fuel flow. whether it be in the line or at the pickup in your tank.

when the fuel-water seperator empties, can you pump it right back up using the bulb? One or two pumps or is it an ordeal?

how old is the tank and fuel line?

May be time

Thanks fishnjim,

I can pump the fuel with the bulb back up in a couple of pumps. The tank and fuel line are about 5/6 years old.

definately time to change them… especially with the ethonol in gas these days. e-gas takes a toll on the compounds that make up gas lines… as well as everything else on a bote’s engine.

it could be fuel pump but I don’t think so on that motor.

anybody else??
