2 stroke - Maintinence Question

thanks in advance.

what do guys recommend for annual maintenance on a 1998 2 stroke merc 75hp?

carb, plugs, fluids, etc.

i would like to understand and know what to ask for.

I would suggest a manual, factory or Seloc. That will give you invaluable information.

Bring on the 2-3 chop!

On a two stroke new plugs, new foot oil, if its running good thats it no valves or such. If the carb is not fouled with ethanol gremlins leave it alone. maybe ring free the gas and some stabil. had a 2-stroke that all i ever did was foot oil, plugs and water impeller until the demon ethanol came along. Sure wish we could get some real gas east cooper.

since we’re on the topic… whats the best way to clean the ethanol gunk out? whats the easiest way to clean it out?

good info

it bogs a tad when its cold but seems to push through it after a while

Starton is a good fuel additive. It’s kinda like Stabil, but has enzymes in it to help eat up the laquer that comes from old gas. Gasoline now-a-days only has a shelf life of 90 days before it starts to break down. A stabilizer is necessary if your fuel is going to sit in your tank.

Might as well do a carbon treatment everytime (before) you change the plugs.

stabil or startron will not help cure a problem, it only helps prevent it.
if you have a gunk issue, you are going to have to manually clean the system.

definately do a carbon treatment

thx chris

i was thinking about coming to see you

and the hopster too.

Chris,
When you say “do a carbon treatment”, do you mean the spray through the carbs type or something like Sea Foam through the tank (shock treatment)?

Thanks
Rick

we spray carbon free through the intake

Thanks Chris, one more question.
What is the best way to clean a carb without taking it off and doing a soak and rebuild? What would be the next best thing?

Rick

unfortunately, there really isnt anything.
you can try a “Dunks” method carbon treatment, but I wouldnt put much hope in that. If you have a fouled carb on a 2 stroke, and you dont fix it, it WILL fry your motor
