2 stroke oil question

I have an SW series II 200 yam; have an oiltank in the deck and one on the engine; which one does the engine use first? Does the one large tank replenish the small one on the engine? Found a switch on the back of the engine that pumps oil from the big tank to the small one. Just trying to firgure this system out a little better.

“Does the one large tank replenish the small one on the engine?” Yes.
“Found a switch on the back of the engine that pumps oil from the big tank to the small one.” This will
allow you to get oil to the tank on the engine if a problem occurs that prevents it from refilling normally.
I’m sure someone will post a more detailed answer, but this is it in simple terms.

the system uses oil from the little tank until it gets to a set level, then a pump kicks in and refills the little tank from the big tank.
the switch allows manual operation of the refill pump in case the automatic( float ) switch fails.

mine failed and i was able to refill the little tank, run the boat until the low oil alarm came on again, refill the little tank and repeat until i got back to the landing.

Hey thx guys; this is a great spot for info!! Gonna try some Penzoil TCW3, alot cheaper than yamalube!!

My mechanic told me to never mix yamalube and any other oil. Says it will cause ‘jelling’ problems. Anyone know if that is correct?

I've used the Penzoil synthetic or semi syn over the last couple years & have nothing but good things to say. People will say to use Yamalube, but everytime i go by a refinery in NY, Del.River, or Texas, i don't see a Yamaha plant.

It is good practice not to mix any oils because the additives in the oil can react adversely and produce sludge like compounds.

you are correct that there are no yamalube refineries
its not teh oil, its all the additives that are different.
one of the bass magazines had an article sometime back, and it had a chemical breakdown of all the major oils, and what was in them.
there is a difference.
nothing wrong with the penzoil products, but you really do not want to mix any of them. pick one and stick with it.
