what oil should one NOT use?
I have an ox66 direct fuel inject and I will only use a synthetic type blend.
Don’t use the cheap stuff. The stuff they sell at WallyWorld for $10 a gallon is what you want to stay away from.
Some of the cheaper oils will leave ash in the exhaust ports.
You can find some of the synthetic blends reasonably priced. I’m not a firm believer in synthetic over conventional, but I do want a quality oil that burns clean and doesn’t leave ash in my exhaust ports.
If you want recommendations of what to buy…Quicksilver is a top quality oil IMO.

CAUTION:
You are about to exceed the limits of my medications...
All I can say on this is that if you have an Optimax, do not use anything but Optimax oil no matter what anyone says. Trust me.

+1
Also, the engine will run so much better you will forget about the higher price (well maybe).

The yellow jug stuff. When I pick up my boat from the shop in a few days I’ll refresh my memory from my mechanic and report back why.
(meh…I replaced my gas sending unit and didn’t get a good seal and when I filled the tank, gas oozed out the seal and got in the bilge - so I took it to the professionals to fix my slack arsed mechanical skilz.)

Opps. Picked up my boat today and spent all my time discussing my lack of mechanical talent and forgot to ask.
I did a little googling and found this conversation about the yellow jug…meh…I dunno…looks like regular maintainence is the key to good oil performance.
