20 Ribeyes for $30

Has anyone seen that tent in front of Target at the Citadel mall advertising this sale? I hear their advertisements on the radio. Has anyone tried their product? Curious to hear how it is/was…

I don’t know how good they are, but yes, I saw them out there Saturday.

I haven’t tried them but think about this. They are comparing themselves to Omaha Steaks and Omaha steaks ain’t that good!

You get what you pay for!

If they are eight ozs each, that’s three dollars a pound. Cheaper than sirloin or flank to make fajita’s with. try them. If they suck, feed them to Fido. Dog treats are twice that a pound.

Don’t know if those are Homestead brand, but if it’s too good to be true? Could be a real old bull, or some other 4 legged animal? I love a good steak, and eat them often, but I know where it came from, and who butchered and processed that steak.

Be “extremely” careful and cautious when buying frozen meat at cheap prices from mobile retail meat vendors such as Midwest Best Choice Distributors! They sell meat even after the sell-by date, that’s why it’s sold at discounted prices. Always check the expiration date and make sure what you buy isn’t past its sell-by date. You don’t know if it’s been thawed and refrozen, thawed and refrozen; traveling long distances only in coolers on rented ryder trucks. There’s no documentation with/about the meat so you don’t know where it came from, you really don’t know anything about it! They pick up the meat from 3rd party vendors and it’s not clear where they get their meat. The meat could possibly be illegal or been injected with chemicals or harmful substances. I recommend buying only from reputable, legitimate businesses with tenure and not these people that Stop, Drop and Roll-Out!

I believe they are taking advantage of people and monopolizing on the down ecomony by making you think that you are getting more bang for your buck. You surely won’t get what you paid for. They will sell you what you see in the article above, take your money and run! They don’t care about you, they only care about lining their pockets. Save your hard earned dollars and don’t be suckered by these types of companies. Go for what you know ~ your local grocery stores!

We were over in that area early yesterday they were not open yet. I told the wife I would come back later and buy them if she would be my Guinea Pig and got “The Look”…that was that…

They have been there a month or so…Maybe someone has tried them…I’ll hold off for now.

Thanks for that link, Poly

Think it was Star South meats or something like that.

Guinea pigs are good eating! They raise the in the kitchens in south america. Probly a lot better than the steaks from that tent. Might make good shark bait!

20 ribeyes for $30 sounds great BUT… just how big are they. I would bet they aren’t the 12 oz or 14 oz steaks you order in a restaurant. They are probably more like burger size steaks (4 to 6oz), or ribeye tips, or very thinly cut.

Now it is not such a good deal.

I can’t say for sure because I haven’t tried to but any. Not going to either. I want someone else to be the guinea pig and find out.

A few things to look for - meat so red that its borderline purple. Sodium Phosphate salts cause the meat to hold water- around 25% of the weight which runs out as soon as it hits the heat and has a soapy taste. “rat packing” - putting the good looking steaks on top and scraps below. Tenderizers - not needed in good meat. These guys are probably taking “canner & grinder” grade beef and making a huge margin on it.

Not sure I am interested in buying meat from a guy in a parking lot. At least buying something in a store, you have some recourse if there is an issue with it.

With all these options, why on earth someone would want to eat a steak from Ecuador, sold from a trailer in a mall parking lot?

That’s an easy one. Budget and price. And not many have the means to raise and butcher one. Besides it’s really not any cheaper(unless you have a great Dad that likes to give you one), just a much better piece of mind on where the meat came from.

“Why Bruce?”

Just go to Costco and get the cap steak. Or deckle. Not sure how they label it but they have them at a good price. If you haven’t had that cut and you like ribeyes then your missing out. Green egg at 800grees. Open the pinwheel. There are two steaks in each. Cook them laid out flat for searing.

You ought to try the ribs from the guy in the Ravenel tractor supply parking lot on Saturdays… You’re missing out!

Finally moved the ribeye tent that was across from Augusta Mall.

Surely something will show up in the cooking section…

Nah, there’s a guy selling “fresh” oysters in the Fred’s parking lot.
