I had the alarm go off on my Merc 200 EFI 2 stroke. I added oil and it went off but comes back on when I throttle up. It stays off at slower speeds and sounds fine at any speed. I just bought the boat 2 weeks ago and have never owned an outboard engine. I figured I should have it hooked up to a computer to check it out. I live in Summerville. If anyone either has a diagnostic computer program or could recommend a place to take it I would appreciate the info. Thanks.
Just replaced my motor because I didn’t listen to friends to mix the gas/oil myself. Costly mistake and that tank is sitting by my house if you want another one!!
If it ain’t broke…let me try!

TrustMe,it sounds like your motore blew from lack of oil? Did any alarms go off before it failed? I have a “98” 115 evinrude and since its pretty old I’ve considered mixing the oil myself, but do not know how big a job it would be to change it over. It that how you run your v4 Johnson now? Thanks

your motor is EFI, but its very limited in what an electrical diagnostic can do
JP, I had a '96 200 EFI Merc and it did that to me 50 miles offshore, just as we found a huge temp break holding huge dolphin. Of course I had to leave them and eased back home. It turned out the oil flow sensor was bad.
Other than that I would say that was one the best engins I’ve ever owned. That 2.5 liter block is a great one, imo of course.
