200 hp..tilt works but sounds sickly

The tilt on my 200 hp Johnson sounds like it may have some air in it. I have been able to repair about 90% of the trip to trip issues on the boat but Im wondering if this is reason for a mechanic!?
Any suggestions? thanks in advance

If the motor is working you may just need a seal and o-ring kit , new fluid and replace the filter assy in side the Valve body . About $60.00 in total parts good luck:smiley:

You check to make sure it’s not low on fluid? I know, dumb question.

I did check the fluid… It was low. I added to the cold fill level but I suspect it has air in the system

If that was the only problem, it’ll work the air out eventually.

Fill it with fluid. Run it up and down a few times. Let is rest for a few minutes as the running up and down MAY put a lot of bubbles in the fluid in the resevoir. After allowing a few minutes for the bubbles to pop, top off the fluid and repeat the up/down cycling. Wait. Top off. Repeat. A few iterations and the snap/crackle/pop should go away.

that is a sealed unit
if you need to add fluid, something is wrong.
you can add fluid, run it up and down a few times, and let rest, but i would then open the cap and “burp” the unit.
when the air works out of the fluid, it can build up a small amount of pressure

I actually did notice that lossening the cap let’s air out enough to improve it… Wasn’t sure if I should keep doing that or if that was possibly gonna cause me trouble if I kept doing it
