I have a 2000 Yamaha F100hp and was wanting to know the location of the alternator and how do I check to see if it is working correctly. The guage blinks 10.4volts and if I you the boat over the weekend I have to jump the battery off by Sunday. I also bought a new battery this season.

the “alternator” is called a stator
its under teh flywheel
it produces about 150volts A/C
the rectifier regulator converts that to 12-15 volts DC
mostly likely failure is the R/R
whats the price on a new rectifier regulator? thanks I will check with a volt meter.

How do I check to see if the either one has failed?

you need a special tool (DVA adapter) for a digital multi-meter to check stator output
a regular 12 volt tester will test r/r output
