FICHT motor
basicaly caused OMC to go bankrupt.
I know, I know, some of you guys have them with 17,000 hours, and never had a problem, but as a rule they were just like the early optimax, and the yamaha 250-300 HPDI, they were just waiting to come apart
anything 2002 or later is a solid motor. The 2001 you mention is the 3.3l built by OMC, which was the last year they built motors before bankruptcy and BRP took them over. It could last a while or could have problems, no way to know. LU’s and EMM were the big issues on those year motors. About $800-900 to get the EMM rebuilt.
from the numerous Fichts i have taken apart, the 2001 was a better motor than the 99-00 Fichts, which commonly have “burned up” pistons.
I wouldn’t buy the boat unless you would be comortable doing a repower. You should basically buy the boat for pretty close to the price of the hull. Regardless if it is a good motor or not, it has very little resale value b.c of the name Ficht.
You might get several years out of the motor, or it could blow up the first time out. with that being said, it is problably better than an optimax from the same era. I haven’t seen nearly as many problems with the 2001 Fichts as some of the earlier models
