2001 McKee 16 hull leaking brown liquid

My 2001 McKee 16 is leaking sticky brown liquid from mounting holes drilled well above the waterline. As you may know McKee hulls are completely foam filled like Boston Whaler.I was thinking of possibly drilling a hole through the hulls lowest point just to see what happens.

Any ideas as to what might be going on here?

thanks,

Rob

Brown liquid leaking from mounting holes or screw holes is usually a sign of wet / rotten wood.

There might be some wood in the stern. The other spot is in the bow lip where a trolling motor was mounted.I’m pretty sure there is no wood up there.

I think there is probably wood in the transom. Not in the bow. The first thing I would do is remove all the fittings that are weeping and drill them out about 1/4" over sized and check the condition of the core. No need to drill new holes yet, just drill out the old ones and see what those drill shavings look like.

Just throwing out ideas here.

They could have used a phenolic or daytona board material for blocking in certain areas, especially for the trolling motor. Both of those have a brownish tint to them.

I just realized I have a built in “inspection port” inches from one of the weeping fittings. Its actually the port that the hull foam was pumped into.I’ll have the answer as soon as it stops raining!
