Changed my prop to a new stainless prop and am now getting a ratcheting sound if I slow down quickly. I can also turn the prop by hand in forward gear with the clicking noise. I understand some Mercs do this by design. I have yet to find where a Yamaha should behave this way. Should the prop lock in forward or turn and click? No performance issues other than the noise. Any suggestions?
Check your linkages
Tall Sail Marine
Hey looper. What exactly do I need to check? The shift linkages on the motor appear to be right.
Make sure that it is fully in gear when engaged, and completely out of gear when in neutral
Tall Sail Marine
not uncommon
boat is moving fastr than motor is spinning prop
water is causing prop to spin faster than motor, causes a ratcheting sound.
shift to neutral, or pull back on throttle a bit slower.
nothing to worry about.
