Hey guys,
I’ve searched the whole internet trying to find the part I need to replace to fix this problem. I have a 2002 Yammy 90hp 2 stroke that runs like a champ. However, the boat will not turn over at all unless I hold down a mystery button that is laying at the bottom of my upper unit. The previous owner tried to rig it i can tell by simply taping the button down with electrical tape. Which works, but I’m looking for a more permanent solution.
The button is black is two orange wires coming from the bottom and has a diaphragm type set up over top that makes it look like a nipple. No press=no start, press=instant fire up.
Any ideas what this could be so I dont have to pay someone to tell me something obvious?
I don’t know what you are referring to either. Where do the wire come from. Simple solution would be to remove the switch and use a adhesive lined heat shrink butt connector to join the wires together.

Here is the best I could do. It looks like it should be plugged in somewhere.

Check with Mike Murphy at Hanckel’s! If he can’t tell you, no one can!
neutral safety switch, they fall off from time to time, should have a thin stainless bracket to hold it in place on the shift slide
I have a 2003 Yamaha 70 hp which is basically the same motor. I don’t have one of those on mine or if I do have never had it be an issue. I don’t recall ever seeing such a switch. Let us know what it is.

x2. looked at mine last night, and it plugs into left of where it’s sitting (if that makes sense)
Mine broke once. I just removed it, since I have one on the console controls anyway. Don’t need both. Forget now whether I just unplugged it, or put a jumper wire.

Thanks guys. I think y’all solved it. I may just remove it and bypass the switch if its just a safety switch.

Yikes - starting a boat in gear will hurt you and/or put you in the water. That thing is there for a reason. Unless there is a redundant safety measure, I’d fix it.
