I have a friend who is seriously considering buying a large boat with Twin Yammi 200 HPDI 2 strokes. He initially wanted 4strokes, but reviews say these HPDI’s are a bit quieter and more fuel efficient than other 2strokes. One of the biggest selling points about these motors/boat is that they only have 53 hours of use. .which is hard to find. And the price is just about right. Does anyone have anything positive or negative/experience with these motors? Thanks in advance guys and gals.

I am no authority but I had a Grady 208 with a F200 4 stroke and now have a 2003 Z200 HPDI on a 208. At idle the F200 is a lot quieter and at cruise about the same loudness at a Z200. The hpdi has a lot more power and gets the same fuel economy as the 4 stroke. You have to add oil but it is no big deal. The engine starts with the turn of the key and no smoke with only a hint of 2 stroke smell. I love the smell of a 2 stroke in the morning, smells like freedom. I think I like the hpdi better.
Thanks Doug, and nice looking Grady. I’ve done some research and I’ve noticed that just about all the problems from these motors are fuel delivery related. . .since there is both a low and high pressure fuel pump in two different locations on the motors. It seems that as long as the owner knows a bit about motors and is a little mechanically inclined, there isn’t any problems. My friend is very mechanically inclined so I don’t see these being a problem. He was mostly worried about fuel efficiency.

Love my 01 z200 hpdi.
4 stroke only beats them on fuel economy when trolling or idling. Use only yamalube or full synthetic oil. Run ring free in the gas also. Will be great motors!
