I have always been a Yamaha or Johnson carbed man. I made a deal on a 2004 Merc 225 EFI today that was still new in the crate until the fall of 2008. The motor looks and runs like a new one. Anything I should be aware of and also will the fuel burn be better with an EFI? What are the advantages with EFI, better cold starting? Less chance of a carb clogging? Never owned anything but carbed. Kinda excited about it as the price was spooky low.
Thanks
Rick
Good luck I have had (2) 225 EFIs come apart with under 225 hrs! You could not give me another black motor!! Ive been running a 250 E Tec for the last 14 mts ,over 200 hrs no problem! Cant hear it run at less than 4000 rpms. Twice the fuel milage than the Mercs! Untill these EFIs I have had good preformance from Mercs!
I can appreciate that! Now you Merc guys tell me something.
A guy on another forum, just told me he had 2 of them and they ran like a scalded dog but were thirsty. he stated they dyno at 244hp.
Thanks
Rick
buddy has one(2005) on a 25’ sea fox. motor has run good for us!! around 200 hours i think. and has sat from october to april and cranks fine and runs fine on the first trip every year. but it is wayyyy thirsty tho!! a trip to the ledge fish 6 hours and come home and uve burned nearly the whole 150 gallon tank!!! and i like the fact that it has a fuel/water separator in the motor that has a water sensor integrated. good motor overall besides the peeling stickers and fuel mileage plus quicksilver 2 stroke motor oil is outrageously expensive!
19’ Key West CC 140 Johnson
16’ War Eagle 40 Yami
12’ Alumacraft 1954 Johnson 5.5
can you swim 5 miles? “NO” then what is the difference in 5 miles and 50 miles!!! Go for it!
Thanks,
That seems to be the consensus. Thirsty and fairly dependable. Like every other brand, you probably get a good one or a lemon, but I tend to maintain my stuff and this one looks new. I saw that filter on the port side of powerhead and they (filter) are cheap also. One guy told me they are known for a coil going bad, but the coils are cheap ($70) and simple to swap. He had over 1000 hours and only replaced a coil.
What is the VST and where is it located?
