Back to the drawing board after researching the sea fox bay boats and before I go that way im looking at advice to look at used boats and ran across the sea pro at rogue with the 2006 150 2 stroke. Dont know as much about the motors as I want to to feel comfortable jumping the gun on purchase so just wanted to ask opinions again. older 2 stroke or look newer with warranty? thanks
I was but was unsure about the mercury optimax and came to the conclusion that that is not what im looking for. I liked the sea pro but not the merc. Im still looking for a bay boat between 18-20 ft. something used like a sea hunt or new but dont have a price range for top of the line. Should I be looking at Yamaha and Honda outboards?
I have an '03 SeaFox with the Merc 150. I really like the boat, tunnel hull, nice ride. Merc, not so much. Actually been looking at replacing with a Yamaha. Got a great deal on the package and hope to enjoy many hours in it. Merc just isn’t my favorite. verado, maybe. But if I am investing that much, I will go Yamaha. Sounds like you made a good move.
I have an 07 optimax 150 with 363 hrs. Its been good to me so far. Great on gas too.
i am casually motor shoppin. will get more serious when the rest of my project is done… on the surface the optimax seems fuel efficient and light weight. should i avoid this motor? i am looking at 115 or 125
i like the 2005 and newer optimaxs
great motors
we have a 2006 seapro 21 bay boat with an f150 for $14,999.00
I have ran both Yamaha and Optimax. The Optimax is an excellent motors. Most folks (not all just the ones that have not run them) bash them because they do not know any better.

My opti’s were great motors! They got great fuel mileage and never gave me any problems. They cranked perfectly, never smoked, trolled all day and ran like a scalded ape on the way in.
What more do we expect from a motor?

I don’t want to be rich,
I just want 1 dollar more than I can spend!
thanks. thats what the research i had done showed… actually more fuel efficient than the four strokes in alot of tests i found. chrisv i am currently runnin an old 1500 merc (crank rated) i dunno how much experience u have w these older motors but do u think i am on the right path of thinking that a newer 115 wld be a more direct replacement for power? i dont wanna downgrade in the power dept but i am thinkin a newer 115 (prop rated) wld be at least as powerful and id really like to keep the weight down. or shld i make the weight jump to the 150 class? boat is 18’ and top speed currently around 43mph. SORRY FOR THE HIJACK!! will be my last question here and good luck with the boat search!
the new 115 is gonna be close, but you may lose a little top end
thanks. will get more serious when other projects r done in a few weeks. if u get a line on smthn keep me in mind. wld like to spend less than $8000 and will need controls.(may not get where i wanna be with that cap) been considering new 115 but may opt for a used 150 or even 175. dont wanna spend $$ to be disappointed. thanks again
for a new motor with controls, $8000 might get you a 75-90hp motor, but that’s about it
115 optis can be had for around $8000 new. my question was if i shld consider either raising my budget or consider used motors with more power. 90hp wld not be an option. 05 and newer opti 150s can be had for the $8000 range as well. that is my desired range. most important i dont wanna be disappointed with my power level after making a change. my inline is runnin strong but has some corrosion starting on wiring etc that i wld like to take care of BEFORE i get stranded! thanks for the reply
