I would like to hear some opinions about 2010 or newer optimax. Please just give honest feed back. No mercury haters!! I would like to know about fuel usage and reliability.
After years of using Evinrude and mostly Yamaha, I put a Merc on my 2011 boat. Was at the insistence of the boat manufacturer, who said the most recent version of Opti is the most reliable 2 stroke ever made. After going through HPDI power head blow ups, I was willing to try, even with all the negatives that Mercs get around Charleston.
So far, I am quite impressed. Sips fuel, not very loud and strong power through the rpm range.
Great engines. The Dfi oil is a little expensive but they do not drink it like the older 2 strokes do. The low speed fuel consumption is excellent and they always make more horsepower than what the sticker says. Those hpdi’s have all of those filter problems that are expensive and vst tank issues. That engine probably put a bad taste in your mouth for direct injected 2 strokes

thanks for your replies!! I just wanted to make sure I made the right decision on what I was buying!!
I had a great experience with mine. My opti 225 was more fuel efficient than my DF250 4 stroke. I can’t stress how important it is to always only use the quicksilver DFI oil
