I’ve recently purchased this engine and have noticed that the RPM range between 1,500 - 2,000 seems to have a misfire in it. The engine idles smooth and also runs at higher RPMs with no problems. I can’t seem to find much info online and was wondering if anyone has some insight. The engine has less than 10 hours running 87 with the 10% ethanol. It’s never quit or lagged when the power is pushed up. Is this something the Etecs do?
I have a 150 Etec for 4 years now, no misfires anywhere in the power curve. Things runs like a top, I love it. I’d take it to a certified Etec mecahnic (Bulls Bay Marine ias one, Seels too I think, maybe Chas Marine?). They throw it on the computer and should be able to tell you exactly what is going on.
A couple things today. I talked to the dealer where I purchased the boat and got the “bring it in.” As I didn’t feel like driving to McClellanville, I called Seels as they deal with Evinrudes. Being that the engine is under warranty I guess I can have it repaired at any Evinrude dealer. Anyways, talking on the phone with Seels it sounded like I potentially had the wrong prop for the engine. The question was asked if I could get up to 6,000RPM and if not, the prop could be lugging the engine at lower power settings. I wasn’t sure whether I have had it up to 6,000RPM so today I took it out for a ride. Paying closer attention to the engine, I noticed the sputtering was at most if not all power settings other than idle. So I ruled the prop out today and will now be bring it into the dealer for repair. My best guess, being that it’s brand new, it has to be a computer thing.
I have a 2006 175. I had a similar problem - cant remember the exact rpm’s but it was in that range. Finally found a guy online who showed a picture of a mis manufactured throttle cam. My dealer is pretty good and he’d never heard of it or seen a bulletin on it but that was the problem. Replaced it and all good since. I’d search for it and see if anything pops up. U never know. Good luck with it
