FYI
2013 Red Snapper Season in the Gulf, notice the federal ACL adjustments being made state by state according to their state’s legislative overriding and bucking of the federal fishery laws.

If they have snapper in their state waters trading 2 1/2 weeks for 11 months of fishing sounds like the fisherman won. Sad we have to put up with those idiots running NOAA

Correct. That’s why SC state water legislation for BSB makes sense, but it’s unlikely that it would work for grouper/snapper.

This is outrageous. This makes me shake in anger. There are so many fish out there its disgusting. These states should kick it up a notch and outright refuse to enforce any federal fishing laws. They should make the coasties do all of the work. This my friends is tantamount to communism.
Nobody is a winner here but the enviros…How the Hell are 8 million pounds of fish going to be caught in that amount of time. .??.. Most of those fish are beyond 9 miles in any of those gulf states. I’m all for bucking up , but this is government run amok. …

He says he’s not done fishing yet. Sounds like he intends to push it on further. I’m glad it happened to someone who has the means to fight it if they chose. Doesn’t sound like its gonna slow him down!

Tax payers sure spent a lot of money for two 1/2 hours of multiple CG boats and a CG helicopter just to write this guy a ticket for a handful red snapper and out of date flares. What kind of a day and age do we live in? Sure seems like over kill to me, plus if there is a questionable conflicting fishery enforcement situation between fed and state such as this wouldn’t it seem more prudent and friendly until fully defined to just issue a warning?
Capt I agree but that would require common sense and know where in this whole mess has a government agency showed any of that. Everything they do is aimed at spending all the money the are aloted so they came prove they needed it and ask for more in me t years budget. Works that way from a county level on up.

The USCG is federal and I expect that the capt was reading from the Fed regs. I hope this guy will lawyer up and beat this. That would set a very important legal presedent for future cases. This could be a very important case that would tell NOAA that they have over stepped
If I am reading this right the state season is only a couple of weeks more in most of those states…What am I missing…?
