When I went to look at new full sized pickup trucks, I looked for reviews online all over the place and it was hard to find a normal, non biased review that was written by your average joe. I’m starting this one here because I know that there are plenty of truck drivers here and its tough to find good information. With trucks soaring in price in the forties, fifties, and even in the sixty thousand dollar pricerange, people are looking for as much information as possible these days. A buck sure doesn’t buy you what it used to. I’ll try to post a thorough, non biased report and post issues, recalls, shortcomings, positive and negative comments about the truck. Feel free to ask any questions along the way and I’ll answer the best I can. I encourage others with experience to chime in here.
I bought this new a month ago and have put a little over a thousand miles on her. So far, so good. A little about the truck I picked out.
2014 Silverado crew cab (4 full sized doors) LTZ
5.3L V-8
4X4 (I did not get the Z71 package)
265/65/18 Tires
Black exterior
Tan/brown leather interior
About 5200 lbs with the 4x4
Heated/AC seats, heated steering wheel
Remote Start (I think this is standard in most now)
Comes with 24,000 miles included maintenance
100,000 mile powertrain warranty
No complaints so far, the truck is well powered with the 5.3L. Its not a burner, but I guess that’s not what trucks are for. I can tell a noticable difference in torque between this truck and my Dodge with the Hemi 5.7. I certainly wouldn’t want to try it with the optional V6, but that’s just me. They offer the 6.2L in this same truck as well and the added HP would be nice, but I personally didn’t need the extra towing capacity. The 6.2 gets about 2 mpg less than the 5.3 so I’ve read. The biggest trailer I plan on ever towing is about 5000 lbs maybe once a month at the very most. If you are going to be towing anything more than weekly, I would seriously consider the 6.2L. I think the price difference is around $1500,
By a long shot, the nicest looking truck Chevy has made since 1998. Great report, thanks for the info. I still drive a 1990 C1500, it still runs, and actually burns LESS oil than my 2003 DeVille (a lot less oil lol). All the nuts and bolts are coming loose, and unlike Aaron Tippin’s car, there most certainly IS something wrong with the radio. But she still can remove tread from the rear tires if I ask her to.

NICE truck! Time will tell regarding how satisfied you will be.
For me, as far as Chevy goes, have had a couple Tahoes that were purchased new, one in 02 then traded in on a new 08. Had Caliper issues, door locks freezing up, Bose sound system making an intermittent high pitched hissing sound that they could never figure out. They were always serviced at the dealer they were purchased from regularly. Oh yeah, power seat, driver side locking up. Never pulled boat with them either. Brides ride.
Traded the 08 Tahoe in on a 13 Sequoia 4x4 and like it better. Already have a 2010 Tacoma and am SHOCKED at the offers on resale(in a good way).
My point is, I would have went with a Toyota, if planning on keeping it along time.
Sorry Sail, my post is not about a Silverado, but Chevy in the past for me.
Great report.I have had two Chevy Avalanches and loved them.I want a new one and now they do not make them anymore???.Guess this will be my last vehicle unless i get one like yours.
I have been toying with the idea of looking at trucks though it is hard to justify with only 77,000 on my 06 Tundra. I have considered looking at the Silverado and F150 (the new aluminum body is interesting). I like the look of the Silverado but, 71 recalls by GM this year scare me. Keep us posted, that is a beautiful truck.

That’s a nice report… I hope that ride lasts you good while. I pull my Mustangs often with my Ecoboost Supercrew F150 and get 16.8. They weigh around 3400 and I’m sure the trailer adds a few more pounds.

22,000 mile update; I guess I put a lot of miles on a truck.
The Chevy has been great; it makes the weekly trek out to my hunting property and never asks for anything in return. I still love it; its not as clean as in the above pictures now, but a truck isn’t supposed to be clean! By far the best option in it is the AC seats.
The one issue I had about 5,000 miles ago was the vibrating in the front end that people talk about with these trucks. Started to get worried with all the nightmare stories I’ve read on forums about this. I had the dealership pull all tires and road force test them. Turned out that I had a bad tire; talking to the guys at the service department, the stock tires on this truck are pretty bad from the get go. They’ve seen a lot of issues. I don’t know if its the cause of all the vibration issues Chevrolet has, but it was certainly mine. New tires at the cost of the dealership and I’m as happy as can be. She runs like a champ again. I still average between 19-23mpg in most scenarios. Pulling the trailer it goes down to the 15-16 range as expected.
I think this is the beginning of a long happy relationship.
Heck, I casually looked at new trucks and DAYUM. Not sure if I’ll ever be able to afford a new one. My 06 Tundra now has 82,000. The only issue I have ever had was replacing an O2 sensor.

I saw a report that the New Aluminum bodied F150’s are not faring well in reports! More expensive to repair and such! The body and fender guys, don’t know how to work with it!
I just use the computer. Never thought about not trusting it, but that’s a good point. I figured its got to be pretty close over a 200 mile range on average.
