Slowing down now, many grown ones have died up until Monday night, Full moon and Warmer temps. Im still hunting but the drop off has been noticeable.

Fetal observations from the last 3-5 seasons have been extremely accurate, the does we sampled from were all bred from first few weeks of September to early October. I knew when our rut was beginning, and the doe above proved that point. Could care less right now and next season about “the rut”, as I have 30 doe tags to fill, and 13 does yet to go.
Again, tell me exactly how you know a “full rut” is on.
Been hunting quit a bit Polly. You never fail to deliver a good hook up!
You and I both kind of agree on caring less about the rut. But if you don’t care about it why the fetus inspections? It won’t tell you when it will be next year as even you have stated it changes from year to year. Have recently talked with a few large land owners about the fetal study. Most just chuckled, one has done it but quite as it did no good determining what it would be for the following season.
As for the rut beginning, I got my first buck september 2nd right by his rub hanging with 4 does. Tarsal Glands wet and neck swollen. Yes we have a long rut and I agree with salty that it is slowing down. Good to hear you harvesting the does, IMO more need to do it and let a few Trophy bucks walk.
The young fellas have been after it lately but we’re starting to see good day time traffic of more mature bucks up and on their feet and scrapes are popping up everywhere right now. Does all seem a bit skittish too. I’d say things are finally cranked up for us.
God bless the “ignore” function.

Dang Bucks are really loosing weight right now. Maybe in a few weeks they’ll get back to eating and put on some weight for some nice December harvests.

Some folks don’t understand how the rut works poly, its plain to see from some of the responses.

You were a little quick on the crickets Polly.
Kind of both polly. Been a long dragged out rut, but I’d say from the skinny bucks and many rubs it was in pretty much full a week or so ago and now petering out. That is a Swag, won’t know for sure until I do my fetal studies.
You study your 1200 acres and I’ll average out my 100,000 +. Then I’ve got access to a 3000+ acre pen that does no fetal studies but has about 60 cameras out. Pretty neat the stuff you see. Even some locals shooting from a public road and cutting the fence. Got em on camera. What is not so cool is the coyote/fox pen down the road that the past storms let a lot loose. Can you believe the neighbor actually asked if we see any coyotes to let him know so he could try and catch them? Yea right! All efforts to kill everyone have been deployed. It is a 30 acre fox pen and an estimated 8 got out. We’ve killed 6 so far.
Twist it however you want Fred, but you lied.
I have a management plan that’s been in place for many years, someone asks, I give my opinion based on facts , period.
I’m gone, I have fire lanes to plow.
With 103,000+ acres to hunt you would think one wouldn’t have time to be arguing on the internet.

Edit: actually I could make more time to hunt, but 2 to 3 deer are enough for me and I have lost a lot of interest in hunting. The exception is if I’m asked to help on depredation permits, then they all are retrieved and sent to appreciative people.
waiting on people to decide what they want me to do and how to do it gives a little bit of time to play on the phone. I just think fetal studies are a waste. Sure they will tell you pretty much when the rut was, but nothing for the following hunting season that any seasoned hunter can figure on his or her own.
You do fetal studies or just get out there and figure it on your own?

Lie??!! you are full of scat polly. All I did was make an observation, no lies at all. You are the one twisting like you often do when something or someone doesn’t suit you. You don’t like that I don’t agree with you that fetal studies help your hunting. Sure it’s neat to know when the rut was in full on your piece of the pie, but what’s it going to do for you next year when we have an early or late fall?
Yes, you lied. You said we’re in “full rut”, then salty chimes in ,and you say the rut has “slowed down”? What is it?
Big difference there pal.

Whatever oh mighty one. Our rut seems to last for a long time. Full rut usually last three week in my observation, we are on the trailing week of the “full rut” in many areas from what I have been seeing. You want to be a big man and call me a liar have at it. Sort of sounds like you may have little man syndrome.
Call me a liar again and I’ll not give you a christmas present nor invite you to our yearly dog drive.

Salty, I apologize I was being a smartarze. I didn’t think you would do such or at least go out of the way to search for a fetus while dressing a deer if you do that. Anymore I take most everything to the processor with the exception if I decide to do jerky. I like to use camera’s on my Personal property more to see what other than deer may be around that needs attention.
Poly ball, I don’t think Fred lied. Seems you just mistook him. I think the rut is on a down swing but I did see a fresh scrap this morning with the ground freshly scratched up, so it is not over.
Since you have been doing your fetal studies for the last 20 years how much is the rut varying from year to year and how long is it in the lowcountry? Up North very seldom over 2 weeks.

You don’t have to apologize to me, I can take just as much as I give! In the morning I’ll skin one in a minute, evening it depends on what’s for dinner and how late it gotten. The past 3 days these deer have kicked it back in gear pretty good, passed on one of the bigger deer I’ve seen Friday pm because he’d snapped his main beam right in front of his g2 on the right side, he was a man.
Wait, the rut is already over??
Well (**()…
IMO the weather has really screwed it up this year. It was hot as the blazes this weekend. Not to conducive to movement IMO.
Hopefully cold weather coming on Wednesday is here to stay!!

If you want info on the rut,and fetal fawns, check out this link ,https://www.qdma.com/detecting-rut-peak/
I’ve given my opinion based on real facts, if you want questions answered, buy a $5 fetal fawn scale and compile your own information .
