2018 Sportsman Boat

Sorry for another stupid question but I’m still trying to learn the way around my new boat. On my console I have a toggle switch to the left/starboard side of the display that has PAIR/REC on it. The dealer couldn’t tell me what it does and there is nothing in the owners manual about it. Does anyone have a guess?

I don’t know about your boat, but my garage door keeps going up and down.

All kidding aside, next time I’m out, I’ll take a look at mine and report back. I have a 2017 Heritage 211 – pretty much the same boat, though they may have upgraded the electronics between mine and yours.

Good one AU. I’ll look to hear back from you.

Something Bluetooth related maybe? As in pair device? Not sure what rec would be though

Can’t help you but I can’t help but wonder why the dealer couldn’t tell you what it was?? It’s the dealer, they sell the boat, they’re supposed to know every thing on the boat and what each thing does. Doesn’t inspire much confidence in the dealership.

just had a thought…how about calling the manufacturer for help?

I would guess something to do with livewells? See if you can contact the factory. They would know for sure.

The dealer guessed that it had something to do with the livewell but couldn’t tell me what ‘PAIR’ was for. He said he thought the REC was for a recirculating function to periodically pump in new/fresh water but I’m stumped on the ‘PAIR’ setting (I only have one livewell).

And by the way I stopped arbitrarily flipping the switch back and forth to give AU’s garage door a rest.

Could REC possibly refer to a power receptacle?Don’t know but I can’t find any information on it .

PAIR is the bubbler for live well and REC is for the max air and recirculating pump. I can fill my live well and keep bait or fish alive for days.

Just curious, who’s your dealer?

I’m going to be in the market for a Bay boat after I get my house built, Sportsman is a model I’m looking at online.

It’s a tad concerning the dealer doesn’t have a clue what the livewell switches do. Well, more than a tad concerning. If they don’t know that, what else don’t they know?

It’s a crying shame you have to go to an online fishing forum to find out what a major switch operates because the dealer staff doesn’t know.

I understand they may not be able to recite the chemical composition of the fiberglass mix, but they should know what every switch and button operates. If you were talking to a salesman, might benefit you to speak to the owner and let him know about this, maybe even reference your post and let him see how many views it’s had. Those views are potential customers. Some newby is going to buy a boat from them and sink it at the jetties because they don’t know how to turn on a bilge pump.

I was thinking the same thing. Worse case, you think the dealer would have said; “let me call the manufacturer and get back to you”

And this is a locally built boat!

I guess my question to k ulmer is,does the live well pump come on when you flip the switch? If not,I would go off on the dealer. If marsea’s info is correct that is.

Everyone has made excellent points and I was a little frustrated with the dealer at first for not knowing. But I’m more frustrated with Sportsman Manufacturing and their website. Don’t expect any type of response if an attempt is made to contact them using the info there.

Thanks Marsea for the info. That would be inline with what the dealer said he thought (with the exception of not knowing what the PAIR meant). I guess the only way to be sure is to fill up the live well and check it out.

When will boat manufacturers start giving you an owners manual for the boat? Sportsman has one that can be printed online but it’s fairly generic and doesn’t cover half of the items.

Thanks for all your help.

Hanckel, they’re very knowledgeable about Sportsman. I looked for a long time and decided on sportsman. I’ve got the platinum package with the t top, but they have more standard features than other manufactures have options. Absolutely love this boat! Highly recommend sportsman.

Well just as a follow up to the previous question, I took the boat out this past weekend and tried everything I knew to see just what the PAIR/REC switch does and between having my wife and daughter stick their heads in various compartments while I flipped the toggle back and forth, it appears the switch does nothing. I’m still waiting to hear back from Sportsman on the question I posed to them several weeks ago.

Pair: Bluetooth player pairing
REC: Radio RECeiver FM/AM

Press the Pair and see if you can see the new device on your BT phone or such, then pair it, then see if it plays music. Take about 5 mins and try it.

I would send a link to this topic to the owner of the dealership and to the owner of Sportsman boats.

There’s currently 2,120 views on this topic. I’d be sure the dealership owner knows his sales staff is incompetent. I’d be sure the owner of Sportsman boats knows that his customer service department is subpar. And I’d make sure they both realize there’s a couple thousand views that may translate to lost sales on potentially hundreds of boats.

Just to make your point, put your original post somewhere like the Hull Truth…the views will jump exponentially.

You spent a lot of money to have dealership representatives tell you they have no earthly idea what is controlled by a couple of switches. It’s a boat, not a F16 fighter jet. Someone needs to get their act together.

Update: A friend of mine owns a 2nd hand Sportsman with “said” device. It doesn’t work except the RECeiver for FM. The BT doesn’t pair, the AUX and USB are also non-functional. For a 2018 boat, that should be working and fixed/replaced. If you can, get something else that works. I’ve never seen this kind of system on any other boat… probably the lowest on the China totem pole for electronics.

So your friend’s switches operate a FM receiver, and another guy with a Sportsman says his operates the live well?

Strange…
