22 Target Pistol

Looking for something to do some plinking/target target shooting. Something in the $500 range max. Ruger models, Browning Buckmark or a used High Standard?
Or something else?

I’m a fan of the Ruger Mk series.

“…be a man and PM me.”

I have a Ruger and a walther with the extension and a threaded barrel. The walther is my favorite of the 2. Both have thousands of rounds through them and the Ruger jams more often.

Got a Buckmark I couldn’t tell you how many rounds have been through. Very good pistols.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I’ve got a Ruger Mark III now, but I actually prefer the sights on the Mark II. Plus the mark II has 15 shot capacity.

For me the Mark II was the most accurate pistol I’ve ever shot, handled all brands of ammo and over many thousands of rounds never once had an issue with it. You can still find them used at most good gun stores.

I have a Hi Standard Sport King with the lockback feature on the slide, has original box and paperwork. Very nice gun. I’ve had it a few years, I don’t think the original owner ever fired it.

PM me a phone number and I’ll text you some pics.

NM.

Done. Thanks

My brother has a MK3 that he complains about jamming.
Internet read say MKIV is much better. Read some good things about Buckmark. Anyone know a local dealer?

Ought to be able to find them all at PSA in Summerville or Mt. Pleasant

My Ruger mark II is as flawless as my AK. Great shooting pistol!

Only had my MIII jam using some very very very old Ammo

Thanks for mentioning the Mark IV. Might be my next purchase.

I have experience with MkI-IIIs and love them. Buckmark, victory, neos, all ugly to me in comparison. Old hi standards or a walther PP are a different class of gun though.

MkIV takedown is supposed to be a breeze. Now have a MkIII ss hunter (long fluted bull) and absolutely love it, got it barely used for just under your max. Had a MkIII ss 22/45 in the composite lower/target barrel, a little front heavy but they’re all tack drivers. The ss target II (all metal) is as well-balanced and reliable as any gun out there, missing most of the new (overdone) safety features too. I like that Williams firesights are standard on the IV’s as well. Hugely recommend the mag disconnect bushing for any generation, mags fall right out and you can fire the gun without one.

Fred, the only thing I ever got to jam in a mark was Winchester bulk hollow points, they’re so flat on the front that the feed ramp would try to cut them in half sometimes. CCIs, rems, federal, it’s all good.

Can get the mark lites (or SR22, ugh) factory threaded too, take it to a new level of fun!

thanks barbawang… thats good info.

i saw that you can get the mark lite in 22 hornet. I didnt know that they still made that stuff. Where would you get ammo? I have a hard time finding 22-250

best combination going

Pioneer 197SF

I would go to the gun show. I bought a brand new MK IV Target for 351.00. Added A LaserMax laser and Venom Red Dot to it. Only thing wrong with the Ruger is trigger pull. I added the Volquartsen Accurizing Kit. Now its dead on.Now the sights and kit cost way more than the gun.

BOB

I was just looking at that Volquartsen Accurizing Kit, I think I’m gonna order it. Thanks Bob. Did you install it yourself? If so was it a hard install?

I added the Crimson Grip Laser to my MarkIII. Gonna change out the Hi-vis sights to the target sights.

Hey Bluesky guy, does that extra sugar mess with your shooting? It would probably give me even worse shake.

22 hornet is still readily available. Midway, cheaperthandirt, sportsmansguide, dot coms. $18-$45 for 50 rounds.

They had some in Wally World Walterboro. Wally World won’t ship on line though.

Same with the 22-250 ammo.

Did you decide on a pistol?

Thanks.

I am 90% on the Ruger Mk4 Lite
I like that the breakdown is much improved and you can easily change sites etc
Would still like to see Pitchers Hi Std

Yes I did it myself. Well worth the money. You will not pull off anymore. Nerve racking at first until I went to CVS and got a pair of strong reading glasses.

They have a good video on YouTube.
