I am looking at a boat that has a 225 Evinrude E-tec motor. I have only owned a boat with 140 Johnson 4 stroke. I am hoping that if anyone has any pros or cons about these motors. Please let me know. I have heard that the E-tec are fast out of the hole and run good but what are some of your pros and cons.
186 - I have an etec 200 High Output on the back of my 2020DC. I have had it serviced once since I purchased in in 2005. It runs like a champ and has never given me a second of trouble. The only downer is the oil. It’s about $40 a gallon and a gallon lasts about 2-3 tanks of gas [60 gallon tank]. I mostly use my boat for pulling older kids on a couple of tubes on Lake Murray so I run this thing really hard. My previous motor was a Yamaha 4 stroke and the difference is like a Corvette vs. a Prius.
Good luck!

elcid,
what kind of fuel economy do you get on that etec?
Happy boatin’ y’all!!
when the etec first came out, I would talk to the guys at the different training classes, that sold etecs, and they were refering to them like the old optimax. the larger motors running the xd100 oil, were blowing powerheads alot. I didnt talk to any of the guys this past year about them, so not sure what this generation is doing.
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

The way I run my boat, you wouldn’t expect to get good fuel economy and, frankly, I don’t bother tracking it. We run it hard all day and burn alot of fuel.

chris how do you feel about the yamaha ox66 200 hp i twins on my 25 grady
ox-66 are good strong motors, just use alot of oil and gas.
I know a few guys that have high hours (1200) on the etecs with no major problems
