Fished with the fleet just inshore of the 226 hole. Dropped lines in at 8:00am…full box of dolphinfish by 10:30am. Messed around looking for a blue one for a little while and kept picking at the dolphin. Headed home at noon. In the harbor by 2pm. Came in with only 3 ballyhoo left. No weedlines, no rips, but lots of flyers.
Ended the day with 19 dolphinfish 10-30lb in 2.5 hours.
Color of the day was international orange.
90% of bites came on the flat lines. Very few long-rigger bites. They were all over the squid chains. Good up-close action.
Nice work. Did you fish on your boat? Should have put some plastics out and caught a grander, but I know how much you like a late lunch so I understand getting back a little early!
Jason, I fished with Bryan Miller on his 23 Contender. Nice boat and even nicer guy. He is a straight-up Contender WOT nut. We made good time in a pretty rough ocean. I was impressed.
We started messing with the plastics, but had a cut-off on a high dollar lure right after I lost my tandem dredge. I think that’s about when we called it. Them dolphins is definitely around and fallin’ for the same ole tricks.
I got a chance to talk to Gaffin4Daisy’s today. Sounds like they were doing pretty good, too.
Oh yeah, and Bryan vouches for 23Sailfish. He says he is only a douche-bag* on the internet.
I hope everyone headed out tomorrow tears 'em up. Good luck all!
We were in the same area. Almost all our dolphin came on the short riggers and flat lines today as well. Cool to see them cutting across the spread up close most of the morning. They liked blue/green, blue/yellow and naked best with us though. Only got 8 out of about 16 though.
You came in at 12 in a 23 contender?? Should have waited it out a bit. Laid down nice later in the afternoon. I bet it was sporty in the head to at that time.
Nice catch!

Paul, We got covered up several times. After one of the Chinese fire drills, we went to re-set the spread and noticed the dredge was gone. I’d like to think it got crushed by a big blue, but I’m pretty sure it was one of them there propeller fish. Andrew fished with us today. He’s excited about fishing with you again Sunday, but it looks like we are getting blown out. Wanna head to HH and try to get a cobia instead?
Wes, the teaser bite was awesome today. We saw just about every strike. We heard you on the radio. It kept beeping real bad whenever you guys keyed up. Might want to check that out.
Scott, The first hour of the ride absolutely sucked. At one point we were laughing hysterically. Bryan was pushing that Contender hard and I think we spent more time in the air than on the water. About 20 miles out it laid down flat and I was actually able to sleep the rest of the way in.
