It’s a mythical spot in Copahee Sound where I’ve only caught stingrays, ladyfish, and sharks.:face_with_head_bandage:

TB2, Y4R, DD, and a few others catch redfish there.

Ken, with that big of a tide, we might want to think about getting out there a bit earlier. I bet the water will be in the back grass by 8 am! I would rather find them as they come in, instead of searching for them all over in the deep stuff.

Lets discuss…

I’ve never been there high tide. Safe with a canoe?

Dudes… my Daughter has a soccer tourney in Charlotte and my Wife has plans for the other kids that will preclude me from making it on the 23rd… I am a little too livid to post how I really feel now but I hope all ya’ll slay 'em and have fun. Austin and a couple guys form here should be out there as well. I’ll be back to fishin next week… Sorry.

How about the rest of ya? I’m thinking about 8 am (or earlier) is the time to get out there.

If you go, get there early. I hit the ville a little before 8 this morning and the water was a lot higher than I expected.
I fished a point for a few minutes and put 2 slottie reds in the yak. Tossed cut mullet out to the same general area and barely had time to put the rod in the holder before we’re off to the races. Drag screamed for about 20 seconds and 50 or 60 yards before he cut me off on an oyster bar.

Moved onto a flat at 8:20 where the water was already mid-calf at the highest point on the flat. I had 10 minutes of tailing action before the water got too deep. I had a good shot at 2 different bruisers on the fly, but couldn’t get hooked up. One fish INHALED my fly, but was swimming straight at me. I tried to stick him but only managed to pull the fly out of his mouth.

Second fish charged my fly then just stopped. WTH??? I gave it a little twitch and he bolted.

i changed to spinning rods and boated my first bass in the grass. Pretty upper slot fish nailed cut mullet on the bottom. Tossed another pice out, drag starts screaming, but he came unbuttoned.

Hot and windy, the sound was nothing but whitecaps, but what a great way to spend an August morning. Off the water a few minutes after noon.

I got to the landing about 8:30, and Xman and TB2 were already out on the water. It was awesome this morning, with little to no wind. John and Tim were working the grass with bait, and I paddled down to find some tailers. Lots of bait at first, but then, BAM, tail right in front of me, then Bam, another, and another! Got one to eat right away on a gulp crab, and he spooked out two more. Not much size to him, but always fun to see them take it.

Move on down the flat, and more tails working. Most didn’t seem to spook until I hit them in the head with my bait. Got another on the Gulp, a bit bigger (sorry about the picture, It was on self timer on my paddle, and didn’t like the sun in the background)

Missed a few tailers, and had two take the crab, but miss the hook. All of a sudden, it was as if someone turned the tailing switch off, because they just stopped. Saw lots of fish cruising, but they saw me about the same time I spotted them.

Met back up with Tim, found one more tailing up against the bank, he grabbed the bait, but missed the hook again. We looked for a bit, met back up with Xman, and caught some crabs in the grass for some bait fishing. TB2 hooked up almost immediately with a pig! (The picture was from about 75 yards away, and does not do the fish justice!!

Xman had a couple runs and no hook ups, then got this nice one :frowning: again, sorry for the picture)

I had one large fish pic up a piece of crab and run into oysters, with the standard outcome. The wind really picked up, so we called it a day and headed in. Saw S

man seems like an awesome day, congrats on the good fishing.

Only had the one fish in the boat. 31" 9lbs on the crabs we had just caught 20 minutes earlier. Dave commented on how big a fish you can catch with the crabs. No kidding! Great day with Xman and Dave. Wind and waves picked up and that was all I could handle. Awesome day, although fishing could have been better.

It was great to get out there, even with the wind at the end of the day. The crabs were the ticket today. I only had 1 pick-up on some cut mullet, but had three break offs on the crab (time to respool), one of which is swimming around the sound dragging a neon green equalizer float! Here is the best pic of the only one that made it to the yak, 6.5 lbs.

Like Dave, I ended up at Jacks Cosmic Dogs…mmmm.

i woke up hung over as hell. shot out there at 10am

but i went left…by foot, caught 3 OTF (spoon fly)

AWESOME MORNING.

dd,

saw your car but didn’t see you.

never fails.

Nice meeting you DD & Xman. Also ran into one of NJ’s minions in a redfish. We stayed dry but the fishing was way off. Only 3 bites, and of those only landed 1 13" red. Between the wind and the current the water was screaming out. Anyone notice what the wind was yesterday? Missed the tide and had to wait about an hour at the point before I could drag the canoe up to the landing. All in all, a fun and somewhat pretty day to be out.
