Trying to replace waterpump on a 1989 25hp Johnson. Can anyone tell me where to disconnect the shifter linkage so I can remove the lower unit?

if i remember correctly, on the 25, there is a linkage inside the waterpickup screen in the foot
take the plastic screen off, and disconnect it there
there is a little plastic clip, dont lose it, or it will never adjust correctly
