25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke Running Hot

I have a 2007 25 HP Yamaha that I have a question about. The motor cranks perfect and runs great as long as I dont let it idle very long. At idle speed, the motor is barely trickling/pumping water. After a couple of minutes, the Temperature Warning Horn goes off. If I crank the motor and then throttle it up half way, the motor pumps/pees a steady stream and no warning horn goes off. Do I need to replace the water pump or impeller or is it possible something else? I had someone tell me it could be a sensor, but that doesn’t sound right to me. Also if it is a water pump or impeller, any idea how much to have it repaired? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

2007 yamaha should have a 3 year warranty. Shouldn’t cost you anything if you’re still before the 3 year mark.

sounds like a bad waterpump to me

My luck, the warranty just went out in January of this year. Any idea how much to replace the water pump?
