This is a neighbors engine that was cutting off and leaving him stranded every time he used it. It got to the point that it would not crank. It appeared to be carburetor related so I remove and cleaned it (actually 3 times). Checked all hoses for leaks and made repairs and replaced filters. It ran great in the driveway but left him stranded again after an hour run up the waterway. I can’t find anything wrong and it will run great in the driveway for about 20 minutes; then it starts coughing , and after another 10 minutes will die.
I think it must be an electrical problem that happens when it heats up but am not an electrical guy and don’t know how to check those items. I know that I had an old truck that would do this and it needed a new brain or powerpack. Is there a way to know if the power pack or coils need to be replaced?
I would check fuel tank, cap, lines and inline bulb for signs of vacuum or air. I know with some of the new portable fuel systems that they may not vent properly causing a fuel restriction. Next time the motor cuts out he needs to check the fuel bulb to see if it is flat. If so, loosen the cap to release the vacuum.
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.

How did you clean the carbs? Complete tear down and soak, or just spray can?
