250 hp OX 66 eating voltage regulators?

Purchased new boat last summer. Noticed after purchase unfortunately that system over charging @ 15 volts. Double checked with meter that gauge correct. Confirmed boat wired properly by Perko diagram. Replaced with new regulator- first one. Took stereo/amp out of loop after second failure to lighten load on system. Made sure regulator ground clean. Stator putting out even voltage across all 3 outputs. On third regulator now. After installation of new one problem appears to be fixed. System shows to be charging at normal voltage. Each one has lasted for 1 fishing trip approximately 120 miles. Each regulator has obvious signs of over heating. It’s a $150 part, and it is killing me! Any ideas?

check the batteries. Pull the caps off, hook your volt meter to the + side, stick teh positive probe in the first hols, it should read around 2 volts, move teh leads to the next hole, you should get a 2 volt increase for each hole, if you find one that reads much lower than the rest, you have a shorted or bad cell

check to make sure you have adequate waterflow around the voltage regulator, and that you dont have excess scale built up inside the coverplate, preventing heat tranfer.

Appreciate the replies. I will be checking those two possibilities asap.
