25hp 2stroke Yamaha problem

Guys, need some help. Put the boat in today for the flood tide and it started right up (4 pulls versus normal 2) and ran perfect at idle at the dock. We motored out and got up on plane.

After running about 200yds then the motor died like you pulled the safety switch. I immediately checked for this.

Haven’t been able to get it to do anything since.

Changed the spark plugs, checked fuel flow.

Nothing, pulls like normal, but just doesn’t fire.

Any help appreciated.

Just pumped fuel into a pint glass, bottom 1/4 is clear, no idea where all that water came from.

Hopefully it’ll run tomorrow with clean fuel.

Drain the bowls. Try new gas. If nothing then carb job. Also check for spark

Check compression too. If that much water in the gas, may have burnt up a cylinder. I hope not, but it’s quite possible.

If you got the gas from the station on folly and sol lagre rd, that would be why. We went shrimping last thrusday and drained over a cup of water on 6 gallons of gas. It was a completely emtpy tank when we went there so we KONW it was that station and it was the second time in the last 4 months.

Didn’t get it there but good info, got it at “ethanol free station” about a week ago and already run one trip with it.

Also heard from another guy about Sol Legare station.

Let a buddy borrow tank over weekend too diagnose problem on his tank/hose.

We have been racking our brains how that much water could get in the tank.

I hope the other station on Folly Rd. didn’t have bad gas too because I just put 35 gallons into the bigger boat.

definitely drain the bowls on the carb and flush with clean fuel
you may get lucky and not need a carb job

Drained all the bad gas, pumped up the ball and she fired up purring like a sewing machine after one pull.

Anybody know where I could dispose of about 5gallons of fuel with some water contamination?

Check on line for a local County ‘Convenience Center’ that handles it. I’ve had to dispose of some and I know Berkeley and Dorchster Counties both have containers at certain locations.

Do you have spark at the spark plug?
