I’ve got a 1994 25 HP Evinrude that doesn’t seem to be pumping water. I pulled up the breakdown of the motor and found where the water pump assembly is housed, but I’m not sure if this is a reasonable project for someone with zero-little mechanical experience. Really, I’m not even sure what to look for except maybe a clog or a broken impeller.
Any suggestions? Would I be able to take the lower unit off and successfully get to the water pump? My primary concern is screwing up something with the drive shaft. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Funny you mention this. If you look a few topics down, you will see my post about my 25 rude not peeing. Guy I got the motor from hit a sand bar. Haven’t been able to investigate yet. Some suggestions: First check to see if the intake hole (slot, screen)is plugged…might be able to get a thin wire and remove the clog. If it’s not that easy, disconnect pee tube from engine see if water comes out of block. Or, remove thermostat to see if that is plugged up. If it’s not in one of those places, you may have to start a little dissasembly to get to the source of the problem.
It’s a fairly easy project, but with your admitted lack of mechanical skills you might want to have someone with experience help you out this time, so you gain a little knowledge, and experience. If it’s been used in salt water those stainless bolts are usually the biggest PITA.

Thanks for the advice. I had already pulled the screens off to make sure there was nothing plugging them up and they were clean as a whistle. I’ll probably try to pull the tube from the motor and see if anything happens.
Looks like I may end up pulling it apart and seeing what i can “learn”
