3/1/08 - Purpose One

Lurlene and Duckcommander were also on the trip with me and Capn. Rick.

Duckcommander destroyed the big BSB and big B-liners while the rest of the crew went through dry spells today. Capn. Rick won the pot for biggest grouper and snapper (if there had been a pot…)

And Lurlene did his normal thing- talked trash like Edisto-fisher would have in order to provide motivation.

We left early and were fishing before light. Worked that area for a while and then some others nearby to try and target dif. species, but the grouper didn’t want to bite well.

It was a little snotty, but not too bad to fish in.

Didn’t see too many others out there or hear much on the radio.

We finished with a basket of B-liners
two baskets of C bass,
3 ARS (We caught and released more than 20 short ARS overall if not more.)
Only two grouper bites all day, and we were 2/2 on them- both were red grouper
Got some triggers and other bottom dwellers, and …
plenty B liners and BSB were also released.

Thanks for the trip Capn. Rick!

Phin, your report was very helpful…thanks,

What do y’all think of my Capn. Rick impression??

:smiley::smiley::smiley:

We fished relatively close to shore because the sea state wouldn’t allow a comfortable ride getting out deeper or working deeper water as easily.

Fished around 90’, and water temp was in the low 60’s.

I did forget about that delayed start. Capn. Rick waited on a guy, but he didn’t show and we couldn’t get in touch with him.

Oh SMACK! That is going to leave a mark!:smiley::smiley:

Phin, looks like a penn in that pic. Where is the lucky avet? You wearing the crocks right?

You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving north.

Speaking of smacks leaving marks, somebody on the boat yesterday told me that they were going to catch a 30" or a 30# (all I remember is the number 30 being said repeatedly) gag and “smack me up side the head with its tail” since I was asking that side of the boat why they weren’t producing even when Capn. Rick and I were both putting on new rigs, eating sandwiches, drinking some cokes, playing flip cup with the bait pails etc. At one point it was going to be 7 minutes from the time the statement was made until my head was to be smacked by a “30 [something] grouper.” At a later point, some sharks were getting thrown in my direction, and I had to inform the fellow that those weren’t even close to gags and to tighten up with his shark-puts before somebody got shark throwers elbow or something. We do not need anybody on the disabled list or the strong armed going to using stumbling blocks (batteries).

That fellow was using a Penn 113HN, which you see pictured above. In fact, everybody was using a Penn 113HN except me for the most part. I used an Avet HX5/2 because that’s

Then, we would have probably been able to “get up on top of it” as I like to call it. We were stuck with cruising “underpowered” speed of 25-28kts at 3500RPMs all day in those seas instead.

You been on sabbatical from work? I expected to see you on the creek yesterday fulfilling your normal supervisory obligations there. Too many trailerz at the ramp for you?

Luke 8:22-25

i was there yesterday, and friday, and today. i have witnesses that will vouch for my presense. i had social obligations friday and saturday so i didnt stay in the creek long after i got back in

I can attest to the hopsters presence with obligatory celebrations.
