Put in at 6:30. Still dark out. Out going tide. Pull up to a lighted dock just down from a creek. What do I see? Gar looking things in The light. Could this be huge trout? ■■■■■ a trout trick worm in the area. Nothing. Look over again and I see 5 submarine looking things stationary in the lighted water. ■■■■■ the trout trick again…Wham! Hit hard by a 29 inch red. Non stop action this morning. 8 hookups and landed 5 reds. All reds were over slot (avg 28/29 in). Moved to a dock accross the creek and caught 2 trout.
Has this happed to anyone else?..I hooked one red solidly on the outside of the mouth! Bottom right but outside! I read something where trout tricks will entice a fish to strike even when not Hungary. Wondering if this happened here.
I threw a doa on a popping cork in the same place but no strikes. I used the trout trick exclusively this morning after that. I now believe this lure is better than gulp (atleast for spring). This is the first time I used it for salt water. I have been using it for pond bass and been tearing them up! I am shocked this simple worm is so effective. I am not related to this company/product btw.
Welcome to the TT fan club. Most lures are meant to catch fishemen. TTs don’t have a lot of shelf appeal but they catch fish. There is something special about that lure.
so fishingwithbob [Capt Bob Sanders] used to frequent this site and dispatch copious wisdom on here.
he said that neutral, inactive, non-feeding trout will hit the trouttrick out of anger or reaction. run into it with their mouth closed if you will. and you’ll catch some that don’t have the hook in their mouth.
he was right. i caught many trout hooked in the top of the head and other places - not in the mouth. i caught some where the bait was sitting still on the bottom, and the trout seemed to be trying to grind it into the bottom - i hooked them under their jaw outside the mouth.
he graciously taught me and others on here much about trout. some good life lessons too.
i hope he got rich of that troutttrick. it works. the spottails i caught on it were bycatch.
a famous-to-me local guide posted this winter about a difficult day where the spottails were eating marine worms, he couldn’t get em to eat except with the trouttrick.
epres, use the search feature on here. he posted some real nuggets.
i believe he’s moved out of our area now. opti may chime in.
i knew him a little and I’m better for it. really a gentleman and a kind man.
Yes all true ^
I asked Bob to come speak to SSWA a couple years ago and it was or best seminar IMO. He spoke about life and philosophy. Just unscripted. We were all riveted. Bob is a dear friend and has had some health issues and has moved to Memphis and doing well. I miss him. I’ve also hooked too many to count outside the mouth. They are the real deal. Thanks Pea
Sorry I missed him while he was here. Thanks for the info. My only complaint about TT is the fish tore them up and ripped the hooks. I knew Zmann purchased them and thought it would be awesome if they made them out of Elaztech. While Buying some more TT from Chas Angler she hands me a prototype out of Elaztech. I about fell over. The Elaztech holds up way better. My son (3) wraps the “fishies” around his arm and Elaztech never breaks. I’m super stoked to try these new ones out. Not sure about the blue color…does resemble mullet color.
Z-Man is going to have something like 8 or 9 color variations in ElaZtech, along with the original color.
In addition, they are going to continue to sell the original TTs
Great job. Good looking fish. Been looking for those ones. Finding some of the smaller ones but still over slot size. Still good for tagging and releasing.
