Left SI boat landing around 09:30 and headed 128 deg. to around 50’ for first drop. Caught a couple of blue head BSB, not many, most were to small. Did listen to Noaa aircraft warn sportfisher about whales, shortly after that two Coast Guard chase boats went by us heading in their direction. After that we moved to some numbers I have around edge of live bottom in 90’ - 100’. Started cathcing big black fish, even caught some on the butterfly jigs. Also caught some nice Red Porgy, we always called them silvers, and some big B-Liners. It hurts to release so many snapper but I don’t make the laws. On another note, we saw some huge Sunfisf beside the boat and some kind of big gamefish just tearing up schools of fish on the surface. Not sharks. Great day for the Superfly and Christian 30BSB 15 B-Liners all released, and 5 big Silvers

Nice. Sunfish are the strangest looking creatures.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

The silvers eat good. I had some on the grill last night!

yea, NOAA was giving those boys hell on the VHF…did the sporty ever actually reply to them?

Never did hear the sporty reply, but saw her in her slip on my way to the dock that day. The NOAA plane I thought gave the sporty repeated warnings, more than I would have. Either the Capt. ignored the plane or had his radio off or malfunctioning.

on friday we saw two sheriff’s boats, the DNR triple engine fountain, and four coasties all hanging out at the end of the jetties… i think i saw a few of the orange boats escorting a coast guard ship later, but it seemed like a lot for just that.

whale patrol, huh?
