3/20 Hartwell report

Do not get out much this time of year due to work but had my 14 yr old nephew staying with us and figured it would be a good day to hit the water.

We were on the water before 6 am, forgot it gets light much later now but use to being at my office at 6 every am and hard to change schedule.

Really had no idea where to go but went up Tugaloo hoping for clearer water, also GPS was not working correctly so that took a lot longer to get there in the dark.

Started at T14 and pulled BB and small gizzards on planer boards and down rods. Went way back into creek channel and on way back out we picked up very nice 7-8 lber and nephew had a ball on that.

Had a couple more short hits and not really marking much else, actually was surprised we did not see more people back in there with us.

Did see some boats dragging baits on main channel points catching some fish.

We rode and checked some spots and did not have much luck anywhere else we tried.

By 12 nephew was ready to head home, so we packed it up. I would loved to have stayed on the water all day but I could tell he was getting bored so we headed in

Guess it will be about a month before I get to head back out

Water temp was in mid 50’s so it should be getting good but man the creeks feeding in are very muddy. We went up to 3&20 and turned around and came back out it was so muddy

Never quite figured out if it is good to fish muddy water or not, I am told it warms up quicker but just doesn’t look good

Tommy,
They’re still hitting small baits right now. I caught two yesterday trolling a Mepps Comet #3 back to the ramp @ Seneca Creek. One was the smallest I had ever caught, around 6". We netted some shiners but spent most of the afternoon too far up the creek.

I’d rather fish than eat.

A gun in the hand is better than a cop on the phone.

In God We Trust

We actually caught that fish on a gizzard shad but had BB’s of all size, we tried everything.

The more I think about it we should have just hit the main points instead of going back into the creeks

When we left we stopped by Andersonville/Shaw Islands and pulled baits there about 30 minutes with no luck and then headed to 3&20 behind Asbury Park but water was VERY MUDDY. By then he was ready to go so we loaded up.

If I had not had him with me I would have stayed all day but then again if I had not had him with me I would have been at my office.

I will keep in touch so we can hit the water after tax season is over
