Does any one know where I can find a 4 or 5" straight thread (not tapered)bronze nipple locally? I tried west marine and ace to no avail.
Paxton marine,if not they can tell you
Try Precision Fab on Cross County. They should be able to cut and thread anything you need.
Good Luck.
Platinum Plus on any given night.
Try calling Ferguson or another plumbing supply store.

Ferguson and/or any plumbing wholesaler only stocks pipe nipples, i.e., tapered thread.
No one I know of stocks true bronze nipples locally. Bronze nipples are generally cast products. Red brass nipples are not cast products, they are rolled or extruded (seamless) products.
Also, you said 4" or 5", do you mean length or diameter?
Nipples are specified by diameter size x length, i.e., 4" x 6" means a 4" pipe size nipple x 6" long. Also, you need to know the pitch of the threads, the number of threads per inch, for your application. Thru hull fittings can have differing pitches.
5" nipples would mean 5" pipe size, which is a dog size.
Be aware of the size (diameter) required. 1" pipe is 1.315" O.D. (outside diameter). 4" pipe is 4.500" O.D., 1/2" pipe is .840" O.D.
Nominal pipe size is not the actual O.D. of the pipe.
Grainger and McMaster-Carr are great sources, however they are not local, per se. Their distribution centers are fairly close and I have ordered items as late as 4:00 P.M. E.T. and received the items the next day via UPS by noon E.T. from Atlanta and Charlotte. Just depends on the stock available. Both are very good about pulling product for shipping almost immediately.
I have bought them at Cline Hydraulic in Greenville. Check to see if you have a hydraulic hose/fitting supplier in Charleston. If you can’t find one, let me know and I can pick one up for you-I live close to Greenville.

Try Carolina Equipment and Supply on Cross County rd.
Try Frichskorn on Dorchester Rd.They sell just about anything for piping that you can think of.

I know you wanted to find somewhere local, but I was looking for the same thing last week and I checked Allen and Webb and Charleston Rubber and Gasket, I also checked West Marine and I checked out Grainger. Check out this site http://www.wholesalemarine.com/ . They have everything you need and I got in a couple of days. They have same day shipping if you order before 2:00 pm and they are cheaper than anywhere else.
I agree with the McMaster Carr deal.
I ordered a 3/4" coupling and ball valve ( British Straight ) for my boat earlier this summer when I was having to replumb the live well and wash-down pump.
Order it today and receive it tomorrow.
Frischkorn does not stock straight nipples in their Charleston location.
rdw a bspp thread is different than a nps thread. bspp isn’t used often in this country. they will thread together but if memory serves in sizes larger than 1" they are 1/2 thread thread less than National pipe threads. in the larger sizes they will screw together and tighten up because the threads are locking against themselves instead of locking on the root of the thread and the crest at the same time.

1/2" and 3/4" national straight fittings have the same thread pitch as their British straight thread counterparts.
the thread pitch is the same but the thread form for bspp is 55 degs, bot is 60 degs. i think hince the locking aginst themselves. thread form is the angle of the “v” of the thread. i remember a little bit cause the first time i cut bspp i was useing a npt trunication gage… got my butt wrote up to.that was about 30 years ago so maybe i"m wrong.
