Left at noon for some sheepshead at capers reef. Anchored up over a barge and we started picking through the seabass. Probably caught 50 seabass for every sheepshead. Kept 7 or 8 nice sheepshead and a good black drum. We probably released about that many smaller ones too. The water was 50 and I think the fish felt it. All of the sheepshead had sunken bellies and fought like wet rags. Went through 3 pints of fiddlers that cost about as much as the gas we burnt.
It was a great day out but the wind really kicked up a little after 1pm and the swell turned into a nasty stacked up chop. Still had a great smooth, dry ride back.
Thanks for all of the help today Matt and Nick. Lets do it again soon.

Caught plenty of these little guys that were set free.

Look how sunken in the belly is. I think the seabass are eating up everything down there.

Never saw a fish’s stomach puff out from so shallow before.

its good to see you out fishing Mat. nice looking fish. Later Len
Thanks again Jordan! It was awesome knocking another species off the list. They taste awesome too!
Nice! thanks for the report. Len are you back on this side of the hill?
Thanks for the ride out, Jordan. Was a beautiful day and that boat is a nice ride indeed!
That limp rag sheep went just over 5 lb on the kitchen scale… watched Jordan pull him up with very little fight. Guts on both I cleaned were mostly empty - smaller one had pieces of fiddler. I think you are right about the sea bass just out-competing them out there.
Sheepshead filets, salt, pepper, parm last night met the wife’s approval. Thanks for a great day of fishing -
Good to hear from you Len! Funny thing, I was talking about you on the way back yesterday. Hope you are doing good -
Matt
Way to go Jordan wish I could of been there with you guys but just about to start my work day over across the pond! That’s OK with your luck you have had we are gonna slay some tuna here shortly!
Nice catch Jordan. We fared about the same today largest sheep was 10lbs. Lots of small ones and $45 worth of fiddlers to feed the billion Bsb’s out there! Had to pull the old Bug Catcher out of moth balls to go today. Last time she saw the ocean was two and a half years ago in Key West with Realfish01 for the lobster mini-season! Was worried about the 75gal of old fuel but a little Stabill and she fired right up. Ran good and a little chilly water temp 48, but it was nice to be out on the water after 2 1/2 months of solid work.
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.
Hell yeah Ed that’s a nice sheepshead. Did they fight at all or were they like the ones we were catching?
My phone died today and I lost all of my contacts. Can you PM me you and Eric’s numbers or just send me a text message?

So when you hit the back button on your internet after a post it reposts your last post weird??
They are spawned out…not starving because of the seabass.
