3 blade vs 4 blade prop

do they make that much of a difference. My boat currently has a 10-13 pitch 3 blade prop with a couple nicks in it. Will be replacing sometime in the future possibly with my (fingers crossed) tax return. The boat is a 14 ft McKee with are
30 HP 'rude tiller.checked the speed this weekend with the Garmin from my truck, and was doing 23 at wot

They help with hole shot a bit. But you may lose some top end speed. All this stuff varies boat to boat. What differences are you hoping to see?

4 blade props also help slow your boat at idle. If you troll alot it really helps.

I think you may have a hard time finding a 4 blade prop that fits your application. They do make them for small outboards, but they are generally low pitch models for slow applications needing more thrust.

For what you have, a 3 blade is all you need to look at.

I was talking to Powertech about their 4 blade props over 3 blades and they said I would have to at least drop down 1 or 2 pitches to make it equal to what I’m getting now.

Powertech sells a few 4 blades for small OBs and they have some good “rule of thumb” info re:prop changes on their website also. The best way to get it dialed in is to have some tach #s for reference.

thanks will probably stay with the 3 blade, how much difference does a few dings in the bridesmaid

Here is so old info on a prop check for my KW 196BR with Yamaha 115. The Solas is a 4 blade, the 16-k is Yamaha’s three blade stainless.

Boat RPM/Speed
13.5x16	13x15

Prop 16-k Solas
RPM
3500 17.5 15
4000 21.5 20
4500 26.5 25.5
5000 31.5 29
5500 35 32.6
5700 37.5 34.4

Sorry, I couldn’t get the columns to line up correctly.
