Worked hard for what felt like only a few fish. We threw back WAY more than we kept.
You know how deer and ducks seem to sort of just know when they’re in season and when they’re not?
The B liners knew, and we caught 40+ all 15"+ except 3 or 4 that were undersized. One went 21 inches. Had to use big baits to get through them to the other fish, and even had to just leave one spot because the footballs had it conquered and staked out as their own.
Started out sliding past where I wanted to hook up with the anchor several times. I was a little rusty and bent up the anchor the first time we tried to reset. Used the leaning post and farm strength to straighten out the anchor stem, and then we got set up right.
It wasn’t long before Circle Hook winched in a nice gag. Putting it into the Trident this afternoon. I’m guessing a mid twenties weight.
Then, we picked at the triggers and snappers. Two snapper bit within 10 minutes so I thought they were going to turn on. Didn’t catch anymore for the rest of the morning though.
Picked at the triggers and bees for a little while longer at another spot, and then Chris caught a big fire engine that fought like a gag. Two of the triggers will go over 6lbs easy. One probably over 7lbs.
Talked to sellsfish on the radio late in the day, and we decided to roll over to where he’d been killing the blackfish earlier. Got there and put some more blackfish and two more ARS (one legal, one short) in the boat before calling it a day.
Grouper bite was way slow. We tried for big fish all day. Seems they were on the move or either irritated with something and not feeding. Sharks ate a lot of our stuff, but I’ve had worse days with them. We had two other big bites. One straightened out a 15/0 circle hook when Circle Hook told the Avet to stop him from going into the rocks, and the other was a 200lb sand tiger.
Here are some pics. Didn’t get a fresh one of the gag because circle hook was trying to get another one and hollered, "Throw t
Pro tip: There are two types of reels one that looks like an egg beater that you reel in upside down we call these “spinning reels”, the other looks like a small wench, some call these bait casters. Anyway keep the spinning reels down and the wench looking ones up..
The fight would have been easier.
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

I will show you the foregrips on these rods sliced all up if you really don’t think there was a reason that reel was upside down at that point…
20 degrees off. You know you would do the same if you had not looked at a boat compass in a couple months.

This is that lucky anchor I bought from you, btw. It has seen a couple dozen trips and always stuck like a stake.
I wonder how many times this anchor has actually struck the bottom? I put a new chain on it last week because the galvanizing had worn completely off the old one and was staining up the boat.
Wait a minute. That’s why I bent it up this time… the new chain.
