MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

More than $30,000 worth of electronic equipment was stolen from several boats in Mount Pleasant this past weekend.

On Sunday morning, a police officer responded to the Mount Pleasant Mini Storage on 1005 Von Kolnitz Road.

The officer met with one of several victims who said that when he arrived at the business at 8:30 a.m. he noticed his boat and several other boats were burglarized.

Investigators say they canvassed the boat lot and located 20 potential victims.

The officer reported that after he spoke to several of the victims, he concluded that all the boats that were entered were Yamahas.

Investigators say they were able to watch surveillance video of the scene, but due to the location of the camera and the lights, the video footage was blurry.

A police police report states that the total value of equipment stolen from the boats was $30,300.

The first victim said someone had taken a screen dashboard and Garmin 7.5 GPS from his Yamaha Torch. The second victim reported someone stole his Garmin GPS unit as well as four overhead speakers.

The third victim said someone took two digital gauges, and his wiring harness was cut.

The fourth victim reported the following was missing from his boat: both gauges for his Yamaha 225 4-stroke of center console, his Garmin chart plotter, Faruno Fish Finder depth sounder.

The fifth victim told investigators that someone had taken two digital gauges and a 1 VHF radio.

The sixth victim said the tarp to his boat was damaged, but nothing was stolen

The seventh victim said his Garmin Fish finder chart plotterand a Polling Motor were missing.

That sucks. Kept my boat stored there last year.

Do I dare say, a “major” thread?..

I hate a thief, but I also blame HOA’s. Dang if I’m gonna buy a house where I can’t keep my boat in my own dang yard…

^^Exactly! HOAs should at least have a dedicated/secured area in the neighborhood to accommodate boats if they aren’t gonna let you keep it at your house.

I lost two Simrads 12" and 7", and two Yamaha gages. Bad enough they will get a fraction of what its worth. But then they cut the wiring which makes it even more expensive to repair. So what is the answer? Police said 28 boats hit at Shem Creek a while back.

Seems like these guys are building themselvels a boat using everyone elses equipment.
I’m with you guy’s,I hate a theif and a liar.

Double D.

They do have an HOA storage lot for boats and RV’s in Crowfield. Very reasonable fees, good security and convenient.

Hearing this makes me glad the HOA where I live allows boats. I feel better knowing my boat is in my yard.

A thief is bad enough but the people who buy that stuff is just as bad as the thief in my opinion. Take away the market and you take away the thief.

I’d bet that 9/10 people that buy these things won’t know its stolen. Throw it up on ebay or something and some buyer that doesn’t know our news will never know the difference. The thief will get close to what it’s worth, too.

Look on ebay at all the depthfinder, chartplotters, etc with no cables, just the head units. . . .

Last year i had an 8hp Yamaha 4 stroke tiller stolen off my John boat. It was a 2010 as far as I remember. Also my buddy had a Yamaha 25hp tiller taken off of his boat at the same time mine was taken. I believe that one was a 1999. I really wish I knew who took it because they’d be in for an a$$ whopping. They were stolen from the boat storage before the bridge on 41.
