30' Plus Cuddy Cabins

I am going to try to sell my boat in a month or two (Aggressively) and am in the market for a 30’ plus cuddy cabin to replace it with. What are some of the Cuddies out there that you guys know about.

I know Contender makes a 31, Wellcraft makes a 35 Sport, Donzi makes a 35, Intrepid makes a lot, I really like the 32, and Fountain makes a 31. Are there others out there that you guys know of?? Also, what is the opinion of the group on the ones listed above? Anybody have one?

Not looking to break the bank either, so Everglades and $300k boats are out. I’m thinking something nice can be had for well under $60k, but would stretch it more than that for the right one.

Note: A cuddy is not a Walk-Around or express, what I am talking about is basically a center console with a small forward cabin.

I love mine, but it is a little difficult to climb into the cuddy.
Mine was customized so the entrance dome was removed to make a flat platform in the front.
You’re welcome to check it out if you’d like.

Thanks Hanapaa… I might take you up on that in a little while…

Your boat looks really nice. How’s the drift on your boat? The Fountain would probably be #1 on my list if it wasn’t for the narrow beam. I’m a little afraid of it. As it stands the Intrepid is leading the pack.

Anybody got any extra ideas?

My neighbor has a 33’Power Play that he is selling and it is in your price range. You probably haven’t heard of them, but they are custom made and extremly well built. it is rigged to fish with all the options and is in excellent condition.

send me an email if you are interested

here are the details and can send photos

EXCELLENT CONDITION-2002 Powerplay 33 Sportfish.
This custom built 33" is a rare example of what a quality boat should really be. Meticulously maintained, this boat is in near showroom condition.
Features:
Twin 2004 Yamaha Z300s
Cuddy Forward
Pump Out Head
Float On Trailer
Furuno 1833C Chart Plotter & Depth/Fish finder
Garmin 4212 Chart Plotter w/ XM satellite weather/radio
VHF
K-Plane Tabs
Freshwater Wash
Raw Water Wash
Outriggers
Livewell
T-top/E-box
Enclosure
Insulated Fish Boxes
Kiekaefer Controls
Hydraulic Dual Ram Steering
SS Props
Spare SS Props
Full Boat Cover and MORE!
This gem is priced well below market value and it’s ready to roll.

Drift hasn’t been too bad. The power steering and K-Plane tabs make it easy to control. The hardest part is controlling it at slow speeds in strong current. It is a narrow boat, but that makes it much easier to tow, and it cuts through the waves pretty nicely too.

Redeye,
I saw that boat on boattrader.com. That’s a nice looking rig.

It’s a Key West 268 with twin Yamaha 150s.

Redeye, that looks like a pretty good sled. I have seen that boat on craigslist, but didn’t know it was a cuddy. Might look into it if it isn’t sold in a while.

Thanks Jaybird, but that isn’t exactly an offshore boat. That is more of a cruiser.

Not to toot my own horn here but have you looked at any of the Fish arounds? Gives you the ability to maneuver all the way around the boat but you still have a cabin, head, stove, fridge, etc. What attracts you to the cuddy? Having access to the bow and anchor are much nicer than having to lay in the cabin to pull in anchor rope. If you want to see ours (Contender 31 Fish around) let me know.

If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you’ve got an electrical problem.

IMO, cuddies are about useless…most everyone I know who owned one didn’t keep it for long. They either went to a CC or express. I second SFG’s comments about a walk-around. The only bad thing is they are not as plentiful as cuddies and tend to be a little more pricey.
Unless you fish from the bow or front of the boat alot, I’d consider an express-style boat.

I have thought about the Contender F/A and it would be an option, but they are very hard to come by and are usually more than I want to bite off price wise. I don’t really need a cuddy at all, but I don’t fish from the bow much and wouldn’t utilizes the open bow. I think that it will mostly be used for storage or for my wife to use to go to the restroom, but it could be used to lay down in if necessary. (Overnighters Baby)

It will sound foolish, but it gets extremely hot behind a walkaround or express if you don’t have a salon with AC. In the heat of our summer, I like to peel back the curtain and get some serious air flow. Small expresses don’t allow for that. I also like to see how fast I can get there and back most days and walk arounds are sluggish.

I also want this to be trailerable, and I know if I start looking at expresses, it will go way beyond what I set out to do. 32 Albemarles don’t get trailered much.

I’m open to any kind of idea right now, because that is all it is… an idea. I have to unload my boat first and then the fun starts. Just looking to get pointed in the right way.

Lay in the cabin to pull the anchor rope??? What boat is designed that way. Mine has a nice set of steps on each side to get up onto the cabin. You can lay down on it, or you can stand on it and pull anchor or even throw a net. It's an awesome casting platform for a rod or a net. Having all the extra dry storage area is very, very nice.
